5 Interview Questions on Engaging Your Audience in Conversation Monica Guzman from the Seattle Pi Big Blog LJ: How have you accomplished gaining and retaining your readers' attention? MG: "My number one rule on the blog is, don't be boring. Your readers count on you to give them something they'll think is worth reading." LJ: What are some tips for fostering conversation with and among readers? |
MG: "First off, don't be afraid to get in there and talk with them right on the comment board. Second, communicate in everything you write that you're listening to your readers. In other words, use the language of conversation, and your readers will respond in kind."
LJ: How do you react to negative posts/comments while facilitating an open environment?
MG: "Conversation is great, but I'd rather have 2 smart comments than 200 that do nothing but make people angry. If you target your post well and keep it focused, you can inspire intelligent talk instead of vitriol."
LJ: How do you keep engagement high?
MG: "Write about stuff that's interesting. Don't be afraid to raise a controversial angle - just know what you're in for. And most important of all - be human. Be honest and transparent."
LJ: How often do you update your blog? Is that ideal?
MG: "I update four to eight times a day. It's ideal for what I'm doing and the audience I want to cultivate. But other blogs are fine with one post a day, or even three a week. Less than two or three a week will severely limit the growth of your blog."
